Your return does not correspond with your current civil status?

In some cases, your income tax return does not correspond with your current civil status:

  • You are married or legally cohabiting, but your partner is not mentioned in the return.
  • You are divorced, but your former partner is still mentioned in the return.
  • Your partner is deceased, but is still mentioned in the return.

Adapting your non-resident income tax return

  • Check if your partner must be mentioned or not in your return

The marriage or the legal cohabitation took place:

    • Before or in 2021: you must submit a joint return. Your partner must be mentioned in the return.
    • In 2022 or 2023: you do not yet have to submit a joint return with your partner. Your partner must therefore not be mentioned in the return.

The divorce or the death took place:

    • Before or in 2022: you no longer have to submit a joint return with your (former) partner. Your (former) partner must therefore not be mentioned in the return.
    • In 2023: you still have to submit a joint return. Your (ex-)partner must be mentioned in the return.
  • Your return does not mention or wrongly mentions your partner?

Get in touch quickly with your taxation office so we can temporarily update your file. We also ask you to regularise your situation (see below). This regularisation is necessary to finalise the processing of your return.

    You submit your return online

Please wait for your partner to be added to your online return or deleted from it before filling in the form. This can last one to two weeks. If necessary and if your request reaches us before November 24th, we will give you additional time in order to submit your return.

You submit a return in paper form and your return wrongly mentions your (former) partner

You may fill in your return without taking into account the fact your (former) partner is mentioned. You must not delete the data of your partner. We will correct it automatically.

If your partner doesn’t have a Belgian national registration number or a Belgian bis number, leave the field empty.

Complete the rest of your tax return and sign it.

    • Mention all the codes and values concerning yourself and your partner.
    • Both of you must sign the tax return.
